Did you ever notice that my website tagline is “I like cake”?
Ok, yes, it is a bit of a troll thing. But in my defense, I truly do like cake… in fact, I love it. Pound, bundt, sponge, English pudding, chiffon, snack style, coffee, and even cup!
When confronted with a dessert choice on a menu, the cake competition is generally pies, cookies, custard-type puddings, and ice cream. All perfectly lovely sweet foods, and yet (for me) they just don’t have the same visual effect. It looks nice, but cake just looks like happy. I won’t deny that there is art in making other desserts and sweets, but cake decorating is a hobby, a profession and in the last few years it’s become reality and game shows. I don’t know of any pie-related reality shows.
Though I personally prefer a more traditional looking cake, you know with frosting or icing. Not rolled fondant made to look like anything other than cake. I’m not saying I’m not wowed by them, I’m just not made hungry by them. Give me a good old fashion buttercream over rolled fondant anytime!
When I’m asked what my favorite cake flavor is, I find it difficult to choose between chocolate sponge cake with fudgy chocolate frosting and sticky toffee pudding. Both equally good and sweet-tooth satisfying… ultimately though, if I could eat only one last piece of cake every, it was to be the sticky toffee pudding (with vanilla ice cream!).
I love cake.
