February 2016

febrooairy

Do you say “feb-you-airy” or “feb-roo-airy”? According to most dictionaries, both or right. Though the latter is actually the corrected pronunciation. Through mispronouncing or the sheer lack of being capable of pronouncing it correctly, the general public has forced the incorrect pronunciation into being correct. Well done! Let’s work on tomato next!

As for my site, this month I’m doing a few “Britishy” recipes and some other bits of whatever I’m feeling like at the time. Yes, despite the love and romance themes that started in the stores 5 minutes after the new year began, I’m not going to dedicate this month to it. Not because I don’t like romance or will not be celebrating Valentine’s Day because I do and I will, but simply because it’s my party site and I’ll do as I please with it.

I tend to make my own cards and gifts so it’s not really a “consumer holiday” for me. Plus, I’m fairly certain my husband knows that I love him without me buying him a mass produced card. Though I did go plenty of years without anyone for whom I felt any obligation to make or buy a card for February 14th. Yes, I do mean regardless of my relationship status, but that’s a story for another time… that will never come.

Anyhow, I’ve known people who seemed angry that they were being “forced” to celebrate love on a certain day, and most seemed to regard the day as insulting to their relationships or lack of. Though, it seems to me that the same individuals that were upset by the made up love holiday, were not the least bit upset about any other made up holidays (they are all made up, aren’t they?) in which they were “forced” to celebrate something. <rant> I can completely sympathize with not wanting to spend a crapton (which is equal to 4 shit tons) of money on overpriced flowers, candy and novelty items. Not wanting to pack themselves into a restaurant with a group of other couples who’s special romantic dinner is being pumped out like everyone else’s by a kitchen and wait-staff that could give a shit about your special night. </rant> I can’t understand how giving someone a card or doing something romantic for them on a certain day is a cause to be angry.

Um, so anyway… This year I most definitely won’t be dedicating my sites February posts to Valentine’s Day. Though I may or may not have at least one thing for it to share with you. I’ll let it be a surprise.

By the way, I say Feb-you-airy. I also say tomato.
