Craft | Note Cards Craft (Love Notes?)

Would it be romantic to slip a little love note into someone’s lunchbox and/or briefcase and/or backpack and/or purse and/or pocket? I suppose as long as you’re obeying the terms of the restraining order it would be ok? I’m not a lawyer, though, so check with your lawyer first to be sure.

Otherwise, these little note cards are easy to make and can be used for a variety of things. Such as tiny greeting cards, gift tags, invitations, thank you notes, and yes, even love notes. Plus, they are quick and super easy to make, and you can get two out of a standard piece of cardstock.

For this project, you’ll Need…

•    8 & 1/2 x 11 inch piece of cardstock
•    Scissors
•    Craft knife
•    Metal Ruler with cork back
•    Pencil with eraser
•    Aleen’s Tacky Glue
•    Favorite Art Supplies for decorating (not pictured)

Instructions…

Start by using the craft knife and metal ruler to cut the paper into two 4 & 1/2 inch squares, and two 2 & 1/2 x 5 inch rectangles. You’ll have a few bits left over that you don’t need them for this project. I put me in my scrap paper stash for another time.

Fold the two rectangles in half and run the handle of the scissors over the fold to sharpen the crease. Then, lay one of the squares down so it’s like a diamond, and place one of the cards in the middle, slightly closer to the bottom than the top. Use the back of the tip of the scissors and your ruler to make a groove 1/8 (ish) away from your card on all four sides. You’ll end up with four little triangles where the lines overlap, cut all four off so none of the grooves remains.

Fold your envelope on the creases, and then run the handle of the scissors over the fold to sharpen the creases. Holding the envelope so the two smaller cut away triangles are at the top. Place a dot of glue on the right (or left) side tip and fold over. Hold for a few seconds until the glue catches. Then, place a little glue on the sides of the bottom “flap”, but not all the way to the tip. Fold over and hold for a few seconds until the glue catches. Repeat with the other square.

Wahlah! Two cute little cards with envelopes for you to decorate. You can glue them shut once you decorate/sign them or secure them closed with a sticker.

Notes…

• You can buy most of the supplies at a 99c or dollar store. However, I’ve never seen Aleen’s glue sold there. You can use most any glue, but the drying time will be longer and you’ll need to put something flat and heavy on the envelope to keep it flat while drying.
• I didn’t show my decorated cards because of police evidence I wanted to leave the creative possibilities open for you.
• Felt markers are not a good choice for this, they will bleed through. Colored pencils or even crayons work great. Or, you could use one of your scraps of paper and cut it slightly smaller than the card (2 & 1/4 inch square) and decorate that with felt markers (or whatever you like) and then glue it to the front of the card.
