These hanging lanterns are basically mini versions of the plant hangers I shared last month. I fancied ’em up with some beads and because I’m too lazy to turn on tea lights I went with a solar light that I modified. I think they look really cute in my garden day and night.
What I used…
- Hyper Tough Household Twine (I got mine for less than $1 at Walmart for 150-foot roll)
- Keychain (hook) Findings (I got mine for less than $4 for 80 pieces available in the craft section of Walmart)
- Small jar such as a jam, jelly, fruit, pickle, or condiment type jar. I used a small Polar canned fruit jar
- Flameless tea light or solar garden light (I got my solar garden light for $1.99 at Walmart)
- Beads from a mixed bead pack I got at a thrift store
How I did it…
Notes
- You can just use a flameless tea light in the glass to make it a lantern. I choose to use a solar garden light and just break off the bottom and glue it to a bottle cap. I painted the bottle cap and the light to match the beads I used.
- I love the Polar canned fruit and the jars it’s in. I’ve only ever seen them at Walmart (pictured). We eat them mostly for breakfast, but I have used the strawberries to decorate cakes or even for a super fast any time of year shortcake.
- Bonne Maman jam jars or other unusually shaped jars also make a nice lantern.
