So, I bought an air-fryer but not just an air-fryer. I bought the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven! This thing is a beast. We ditched out toaster so we’d have counter space. A decision I don’t regret.
This thing makes great toast, bakes nice cakes using the convection setting, works great as a regular oven, and the air fryer function is awesome. Honestly, no joking here, my regular fulls sized oven is now being used as storage! I haven’t used it since the first time I used this air fryer oven. I have been using the hell out of this thing and it hasn’t’ disappointed me yet.
It does take a little time to get used it. Time to understand how things cook differently in it. I will definitely be posting air fryer recipes in the future but for now, this is the first thing I made…
Air Fryer Fries
- I cut one large russet potato into cut into 1/3″ thick fries using a mandoline.
- I soaked them in water for one hour to remove some of the starch. Next time I will soak them longer.
- I dried them well, then tossed them in a bowl with a little olive oil, then spread them out on the basket that came with the oven.
- I air fried them for 18 minutes, shaking the basket to rearrange the fires every 5 or 6 minutes.
- As soon as they were well browned I took them out and sprinkled them with salt.
- Then, I burned the crap out of my mouth eating the first one. After they cooled a bit I enjoyed them, but I made mistakes.
Next time they’ll be better. Next time, I will soak them longer and remove more of the starch. Possibly I will change out the water at least once. I will work in batches, I overcrowded the basket and it was hard to get all the fries evenly browned without burning some or burning parts of the same fry. Or maybe I’ll make less? Nope, I’ll definitely make them in batches!
