Homemade fries (if done right) are generally worth the effort but I don’t always feel like the effort is something that is justified… as in I don’t want to spend more time on the fries than on the main part of the meal.
It is really nice to be able to just heat something up and eat it. Store bought oven fries are basically the alternative to going out to get “fast food”. Moreover, it’s nearly always cheaper!
I like the prices on the store brands but I always feel that they fall short on satisfying the crispiness I want in a fry. Though they are not nearly as cheap, the Ore-Ida brand Extra Crispy tots & fries are hands down the best. They actually come out of the oven crunchy and browned outside but still fluffy inside.
Though no frozen fry can beat a crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside golden, salty fresh fried fry, Ore-Ida’s Extra Crispy products have my vote for cost and convenience VS fast food, and they are pretty damn tasty for oven baked.
Did you know that Ore-Ida is named because the company bordered the states of Oregon and Idaho? Read more about it on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ore-Ida and if you’re inclined, check out Ore-Ida’s own site here: http://www.oreida.com
